What is PACS?
PACS is a computer system that allows the digital capture, viewing, storage and transmission of medical images. It replaces conventional x-ray film and greatly improves access to patient information by providing the ability for referring clinicians to review their patient’s images on PCs in the authority, as well as from their own offices.
With other devices such as a CD Writer medical facilities can supply diagnostic images to patients or referring doctors.
The system represents a network of computer servers and web-based work stations that will be interfaced with the hospitals’ diagnostic imaging equipment (Modalities) such as x-ray, CT Scan, MRI, and ultrasound. Once these images are scanned from the modalities, then the data is stored within the PACS system itself, saving time and money on film processing, data entry and patient errors.
